Are you working with clients who have Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) and/or chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS)? This course will increase your understanding of these frustrating syndromes. Massage and Asian Bodywork (shiatsu, tuina, acupressure, etc.) are highly effective modalities for most of these clients. Physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual dynamics contribute to these syndromes, and we must learn to interact with clients on multiple levels.
Participants will learn the tender points used for assessment of FMS, how stress and trauma influence fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, signs and symptoms of FMS and CFS, factors that influence healing in FMS and CFS, the role of symptoms as a messenger in illness, pain management factors, and the role of the immune system in the two syndromes. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) assessment and patterns are also reviewed.
The textbook for this course is a 135 page manual. Course participants will read the text and then answer the quiz questions, and return the quiz for grading. The course will be especially interesting to massage therapists who use acupressure, aromatherapy, and lymphatic techniques in their work.

Course Prerequisites: While there are no specific prerequisites, the program will be most interesting and useful for massage therapists who are currently working with clients who have fibromyalgia and/or chronic fatigue syndrome.
