Description: TemperoMandibular Joint (TMJ) Syndrome is a painful and sometimes disabling joint problem which often responds well to massage and bodywork techniques. This home study course reviews the musculo-skeletal anatomy and the energetic anatomy (meridians and acupoints) of the jaw and related areas. Causes and correlated conditions of TMJ are reviewed. Assessment of the meridian involvement for individual clients is a key strategy for success in working with TMJ. Best outcomes are achieved by performing local work in the jaw and neck area, and also including distal points on the meridians that are most involved.
Prerequisites:
Familiarity with musculoskeletal anatomy and training in a
full-body massage or bodywork protocol will be helpful.
Learning
Outcomes:
-Review and identify the anatomy (bones & muscles) of
the TMJ
-Review and identify the energetic meridians affecting the
neck, head, and jaw
-List and describe the main causes of TMJ
-List and describe conditions that are often correlated
with TMJ
-Use assessment checklists and diagrams to identify TMJ
patterns in clients
-Complete the quiz at the end of the program (75% for
passing).
