This Shiatsu CE Course is designed especially for Massage therapists who want to incorporate Shiatsu into their massage table-work. All techniques will be taught on standard massage tables with an emphasis on using pressure-point and meridian work as an adjunct to massage. In this three-day workshop you will learn a basic full-body Shiatsu routine that can be done with the client fully clothed, or can be applied through a drape. We will explore a dozen of the most important acupressure points and their functions, as well as an introduction to the meridian system. This exciting work will add a new dimension to your massage that your client's will love!

Shiatsu is the art of Japanese acupressure therapy. Gentle to moderate pressure is applied strategically to the body's energy channels and acupoints to mobilize and strengthen the body's Qi energy. Pressure is applied with the hand, thumbs, fingertips, elbows, or feet to areas and points on the client's body with the purposeful intention of releasing blockages of Qi, thereby assisting the client's body to return to a more balanced condition in which the Qi can flow more smoothly throughout the body. This pressure application helps to relieve fatigue, soreness, and tension, and stimulates the body's self-healing mechanisms.

Shiatsu's emphasis is a holistic approach to wellness of mind, body, and spirit. One of the goals of shiatsu is to keep the body in top condition on an ongoing basis so that symptoms requiring medical attention are less likely to occur. Bodywork is an excellent way to assist clients and ourselves in discovering the interconnected nature of their being and functioning.

Shiatsu is traditionally performed on a fully-clothed client, on a floor mat or futon. A full treatment usually takes about an hour. The work is always done within the comfort range of the client. While tissue which has been injured or is holding tension and stress is usually reactive and tender, it is possible to work with an amount of pressure which is pleasant to receive. Both client and practitioner should feel relaxed and rejuvenated after a session. In this workshop, all techniques will be taught on standard massage tables for integration with massage therapy.
